The Tatooine open-world PvP area saw a lot of action during the Rakghoul Plague event but I expect things to be quieting down now that it’s over. Ilum has pretty much shut down, so hopefully this recent event raised interest in the Outlaw’s Den. I still spend most of my time between queues there and have learned a few things since my previous article. Fortunately, I can say that I have found no new spawn locations since that guide so it appears to be complete. And check out this upgraded map of the box locations after the break:
Warning!! This video has Spoilers in it!!
If you missed the big news in game there is a Rakghoul Infestation on Tatooine!! Not only are there broadcasts going out while at the Fleet, but there is also a news station where you can watch the broadcast warning you stay away. So naturally I headed straight there!
“There’s Merc’s in them there hills.”
The Outlaw’s Den was intended to be an active world PvP zone but became just another part of the desert when the designers removed all of the loot. Now the Mercenary Commendations are back and I’ve got the guide on how to get them.
For those not familiar with The Outlaw’s Den, it is a free-for-all PvP zone. You can attack, and be attacked by, anyone not in your party. There is an entrance for each faction. In the middle of the area is a building with an auction house and mailbox almost begging people to let their guard down. There are also 3 PvP vendors scattered around who sell unique speeders.

Here’s an interesting little tidbit that was unveiled a couple days ago during the GDC Online 2011 Interview with our buddy Georg Zoeller:
“I talked two years ago about DA:O [Dragon Age: Origins], about making a massive title. I had no idea how small that was. A single section of Tatooine has more creatures in it than the entirety of DA:O. A single class will spend between 6-10 hours on Tatooine alone; 15 if you are a completionist. This is only the class content.”
You can check out the full interview here at Darth Hater.
That’s a lot of creatures, especially for a planet covered in sand dunes. The class progression hours also seem impressive. During last year’s Comic-Con, we found out that SWTOR is going to have many different quest types: class quests, world quests, group quests, Flashpoint quests, world arcs, and bonus quests. So, if Tatooine’s class quests take up 6-15 hours to complete, it can only be assumed that this time frame may even grow larger once players start adding in optional quest content and completing Flashpoints.
