With the Asia Pacific Character Transfers being initiated 4/24/12 a lot of players have been asking about when Character Transfers will be available for everyone else.  At Pax East when the Devs were asked about which 1.3 features would they have liked to make it into 1.2, they responded with “Group Finder and Character Transfer”.

Also, the recent Twitter request by James Ohlen indicates a strong movement towards finalizing the Group Finder tools coming soon.  Combined with the statement that they want Content Patch cycles to go quicker than 1.2 did, it’s solid speculation that 1.3 will bring these features to the players around June to early July at latest.

Daniel Erickson was recently interviewed by NOWGamer and the topic of server mergers and transfers came up. Here is a small clip of what they discussed. For the full article, follow the link below.

“One of the problems we’re running into right now is kind of a classic MMO problem, which is that our overall population of players has not changed, but our peak concurrent users has changed,” Erickson told NowGamer following last week’s 1.2 Legacy update.

“As the game goes on and people relax a little bit, not playing the game 7-8 hours a day, you see a lot less crowds especially in certain places. Right now we’ve got our character transfer stuff underway on this side. It hasn’t rolled out yet – it will soon, to allow people to move to servers that will be better to their liking, get communities together. Long term we actually have to look at servers as a whole. The nice part about it is we have doubled how many people we can put on each server since launch. The down side is that at launch, because people were upset at the long queues we aired on the side of opening up more space. What that has now done is separated our player-base into a larger group.”

Erickson said that current server merging would have resulted in large queues with the 1.2 update.

With the level of changes going into 1.2, Reverse Engineering (RE) is something you need to be on top of.  The best gear in the game will be crit crafted Orange custom gear with Augment slots.

But how do you get that gear, the Augments, and the modifications to put into them?

Previously you could send a companion out on a Mission Discovery (like Slicing), and then use the same Mission Discovery a second time to send a different companion out at the same time.  Things change.

In 1.2 this is no longer possible.  So if you banked up several duplicate Mission Discoveries for 1.2 intending to send your companions out while you were sleeping or at work, you’re going to be disappointed.

In all MMO’s there are sets of armor that give a specific “feel” to the class.  But when dealing with Star Wars you have to consider not only artistic intent, but the entire history of the Star Wars IP.  Whereas other MMO’s may find that flashy is better, in SWTOR simple robes could actually be the best choice.

We have heard the community loud and clear when it comes to armor sets. What we’ve heard the players say is, “I don’t care how high level I get, I still want my core sets to look and feel like Star Wars and like my class – cooler but not crazy. Keep the crazy to optional gear.

At Pax East BioWare took the time to answer many player questions.  Here are some of the more relevant and interesting answers that we heard.

Dark Side Jedi & Light Side Sith

A player brought up the idea of ability animations being chosen by the character’s Light or Dark Side.  So a Light Side Sith Warrior could use Force Stasis instead of Force Choke, or a Dark Side Jedi Consular could use Force Lightning instead of Telekinesis.  They said “that’s a really cool idea and I will take that under advisement and bring it back to the team”.

Space Combat

“We have big, big plans” for space combat, but they can’t speak about it yet.  When asked about capitol ships “It’s definitely something you’re going to see in the future…and it’s actually going to link into another game system which I can’t talk about”.  Is it possible they may be planning Eve style ship battles?!?
