UPDATE: According to the folks in this thread the Anti-Aliasing that was introduced in 1.1 might be causing the issue. Some people have noted that turning of AAs have successfully fixed this problem.

With the release of the latest content patch, there have been reports that there is intermittent flickering of the game display when in Open World areas. Here is a quote from someone that has brought up this problem:

Since Patch 1.1 on January 18th 2012 some members of the community have been reporting intermittant screen flickering. This happens primarily in outdoor areas and the flicker can be varioius colors including black, white, purple and green. At this time Bioware has not acknowledged this as a concern despite many swtor.com forum posts concerning this issue. This should not be confused with the random ‘loading art’ screen that would flicker on prior to patch 1.1.0a released on January 19th 2012.

Though it may seem minor, there has been some concern for those who have epilepsy. We here at Force Junkies are not medical experts, so please don’t take this as a warning or any type of professional opinion. We do not have any proof or reason to say that this flickering could be harmful. However there are some within our community that do suffer from this condition and have expressed their own concerns.

Tonight, Bioware has acknowledged this issue:
