The fact that BioWare is grouping all of the server transfers up by server type right now and not allowing players to cross between those types is confusing many players as it is, but it is, I imagine, quite efficient. Except… one problem. Three, rather. The Lord Calypho (English), Jen’jidai (German), and Huntmaster (French) RP-PvP European servers. These are the only three RP-PvP European servers, one per language region, and therefore, players on these servers won’t be seeing any type of free transfer. Unless, of course, BioWare decides to do some shifting.

This might not be so bad if these servers weren’t that empty, but this isn’t the case– they’re just as empty as most of the other SWTOR servers. The NA RP-PvP servers have both been lumped together, which is at least a little better than the EU variants. Lumping the three servers together would make statistical sense, but since three different languages are represented, the situation’s a little more difficult. Understandably, players on these three servers are quite frustrated by their lack of transfer options.

A thread on the official forums has been started by these players. Here are some of the quotes from the community, starting with the original post:

“I just want to inform you ( especially players on “Lord Calipho” ) that the RP-PvP Server “Lord Calypho” will have no transfer destination at the transfers coming 12th of June.

We just figured out the problem in the German forums, and we got an official answer.

It’s not possible to transfer between different-type servers – it’s just problematic because in the EU ( FR / GB / DE ) we only have 3 RP-PvP servers, each per region – and this RP-PvP servers ( all of them are nearly “dead” servers ) will have no option in the server transfers.”

And later on:

“The German CM’s told us they will adress the problem, but we should not expect any transfers from / to the RP-PvP right now.

It’s a bit ridiculous because you just could remove the RP from the servers cause there is no restriction, moderation or something else specifying these servers as RP.”

This is an interesting note. Since RP is a total voluntary activity, why not allow players on these servers a choice between transferring to the designated PvP server or RP server of their region?

Unless, of course, BioWare plans on opening up transfers to those servers at some point. That would work, too, but it’s unfortunate that for now, these players are left without any transfer options.

Well, even if they do allow transfer to/from these servers at some point, by then it will most likely be too late. They’ve dragged their heels on this for too long now, and many people on Lord Calypho are up for renewal over the weekend. And many of those have thrown their hands up in despair and frustration and won’t be resubbing.

it’s  a shame, too, because LC has (or, rather, had) a great community.

What boggles my mind even more is that there are a plethora of viable options for transfers to/from. Bioware just didn’t make any decisions regarding these servers; or if they did, they didn’t bother informing anyone until they’d let the problem grow into a huge issue. Gonzales came on the forum thread mentioned in the above article and basically said, “What do you want us to do?” Um, I know we complain that the community is excluded in decision-making, but should BW have had a plan in place for this from the beginning? And why ask the community what they’d like when we all know there isn’t a chance in hell that anything anyone in the community said would be given a second thought by the Devs.

I personally think they should consolidate all the RP-PVP servers in NA and the EU into one. The lag time crossing the Atlantic isn’t really that bad (and mostly preventable with services like WTFast), and this would give that one server a decent population. Anything else just won’t cut it.

But, if they keep avoiding the issue and maintaining their usually stoic silence, there won’t be enough players left for any fix to be viable…
