Patch 1.2 is just around the corner and the PvP’ers out there need to know what they’re getting into.  As a heads up, Champion and Centurion gear will no longer be acquirable in game.  So if you have any duplicate tokens still in the bank make sure to use them before the patch goes live.

Want to know how to get War Hero gear?  Curious about the changes to Valor requirements?  Want to know about the new set being added?  Click Continue Reading.
This information is current as of PTR 1.2 3/25/12.

Recruit

The new tier of PvP gear being added is called Recruit.  These are Blue items (ilvl 128) available for credits.  A full set of Recruit gear will cost you a total of 296,400 credits.  That gets you everything including weapons, offhands, relics, etc…

Recruit gear will have less total stats than Champion gear, but it will have more Expertise.  This is the new gateway set for brand new 50′s entering PvP and an additional money sink for new characters.

Battlemaster

Battlemaster gear currently requires Valor 60 and can only be attained from Daily or Weekly quests.  That design bites the dust as the Valor Requirement is removed entirely and BM gear can now be purchased with Warzone Commendations (WZC).

The cheapest items are the Relics at 525 WZC, while the 2 most expensive are the Chest at 1400 WZC and the MH Weapon at 1600 WZC.  The new WZC cap will be 2000 instead of 1000.

War Hero (Normal)

War Hero (ilvl 146) is the T2 gear being added in 1.2.  To purchase these items you will need the equivalent BM item slot (gloves for gloves) and Ranked Warzone Commendations.  So a War Hero MH weapon will cost you your BM MH weapon (1600 WZC) and an additional 3400 Ranked WZC.

The cap for Ranked Warzone Commendations is unknown to me at this time, but obviously exceeds 3400 at a minimum.

War Hero (Rated)

War Hero Rated gear works a bit differently from what you are used to.  This gear is an empty orange shell with the same appearance as War Hero but with a different color scheme.  It will cost between 350 to 555 Ranked WZC’s each, and has a Rating requirement ranging between 1400 to 2400.

The only flaw with this system is that there are no Augment slots.  On the upside, if a crafter meets the Rating requirement this armor is much cheaper to obtain for RE’ing.  It’s designed to emphasize skill over gear because you move your mods from your regular WH gear into the Rated WH gear.

Gear Progression

You buy your BM gear using WZC’s earned in regular Warzones.  You then earn Rated WZC’s from Rated Warzones.  These are both spent to purchase the War Hero gear.  The only problem arises with the Rated WH gear as crit crafted orange items will be superior to Rated WH gear due to the augment slots.

So… for best in slot you’d want to get the rated WH item, then Reverse Engineer it for the mods, then put those mods in another piece of orange gear with an augment slot?  Is that accurate?

Can anyone take the mods out of their WH gear?  Or can only Armstech, Artifice, Armormech and Synthweavers take the mods out of the WH gear?

    • Skeleton Jack

Can’t RE armorings with set bonuses attached to them.  The other mods should be possible.  They noted that there will be some exceptions out there, but I don’t see that being one of them.

Anyone can take their mods (all modifications) out of their armor in 1.2 Legacy.

Quick question. If you remove your mods from your BM gear (say, to put in some orange gear), will the shell of BM work when exchanging for WH (or does it have to be “intact”)?

    • Skeleton Jack

The shell will work no matter what.  The only issue is that gear before 1.2 will run into problems with the armoring on set bonuses transfering (ie, they won’t).  As Augments prior to 1.2 will not be RE’able for recipies, I’d think previous BM gear will have issues with their armoring set bonus as well.  Outside of that, you should be good to go to move anything as you see fit.
